Hello! I live in California & I homeschool using a Waldorf curriculum. www.pepperandpine.com

Graham cracker Masjid and star and crescent cookie Graham cracker Masjid and star and crescent cookies. Because my 10-year-old daughter is sad I’m not doing more festive Ramadan activities like I used to do with the boys when they were young.
.
So my day consisted of baking and assembling festive desserts with my 10-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. Then I took a nap. Then I cleaned up and spent even more time in the kitchen preparing iftar.
.
That was the whole day. How did that happen? Why did it take all day (plus the day before) to do these projects? What about all the other things we have planned for Ramadan? How did I do this before and the kiddos were even younger 🤷‍♀️🙈
Shouldn’t I be better at this by now?!
.
I don’t know how the day it literally escaping me but it is. I hope that the time spent creating and engaging in these activities enhances my children’s Ramadan experience and creates strong loving ties to this blessed month that they can carry with them into adulthood. Ameen.
.
P.S. I’m not a baker or dessert maker. I feel all the sugar isn’t good for their body so I don’t make an effort, but dessert is good for the soul. So I’ve come to terms with it...on occasion.
.
P.P.S. I didn’t have any of this though it looked super delicious while we were making it and I did think I would have some after iftar but I didn’t feel like it by then. Two members of the family had waaaay too much of it after iftar and regretted their decision 🙀so I don’t think they’ll be doing that again any time soon.
.
I’ll let you know tonight 😉

It’s been years, but I’m finally getting back It’s been years, but I’m finally getting back into a deep love of mine: scrapbooking!!
.
I’ll be scrapbooking daily during the month of Ramadan. Our Ramadan scrapbooks are some of our favorite. I’ve been making them for years, but I’ve missed several Ramadans recently 🙈
.
I have so many scrapbooking supplies, so I’m using these things up first. If you’re a scrapbooker you’ll recognize that these supplies are really old...like really really old, some of the companies are no longer in business! But they still feel current to me.
.
Overall I’m excited to reconnect with this meaningful creative outlet.

You don’t have to be in California to enjoy guac You don’t have to be in California to enjoy guacamole, but I do believe our avocados taste better 😉
.
I like mine with limes and a touch of lemon, and of course garlic.
.
I just posted this recipe on my YouTube channel and a viewer shared that in her home country of Mexico, they don’t use garlic.
.
It got me thinking of all the variations of this beloved side dish. My favorite is homemade guacamole with all the ingredients you’ll find in the video tutorial with the addition of jalapeños and tomatoes.
.
But since I made this for my daughter, I omitted the jalapeños and tomatoes and I think it tasted even better!
.
I also used my volcanic rock mortar and pestle to make this batch of guacamole. It works well enough if you’re making a small batch, but I felt like the avocado was more prone to falling out.
.
I’ll probably go back to using a large bowl to make guacamole and use this mortar and pestle for spices.
.
One plus side is that my guacamole looked spectacular in this rock bowl.

This is my first time making this recipe and after This is my first time making this recipe and after tasting it, my daughter asked me to make this everyday. Safe to say it’s a winner, and one I’ll be making again.
.
I got the recipe from the September 2020 Eating Well magazine @eatingwell
I made a couple changes, but overall it was super tasty and bursting with flavor.

I swapped out bread for rice and added harissa for a kick.
.
Video tutorial posting next week on my YouTube channel, along with my hummus recipe (which is super simple and can-free).
.
The extra perk of this recipe is that it looks pretty and even my children patiently waited while I took pics for the blog post and thumbnail🙈

What’s the opposite of a green thumb? I have one What’s the opposite of a green thumb? I have one of those. And yesterday, I spent hours repotting new succulents into all my pots. They had been sorely neglected after being over tended (too much water with bad drainage will kill succulent pretty fast) and all that remained were a couple of sad and wilted succulents in each pot. The soil was so dry it was dusty and dried leaves littered the decorative rocks.
.
Now these containers are bursting with life with succulent clippings from my friend Maimoona’s garden. @maimoonas_chronicles
.
I clipped a few from my front garden as well and now everything looks fresh and ready for spring.
.
While I have a variety of pots, these two are from my sister Aurelia @aurelia_khatib and are actually intended for yarn 🙈
.
I’m in an energetic mood, so I’m hoping to ride that energy to do some spring cleaning, projects and more!
.
This chalk drawing accompanies our Genghis Khan an This chalk drawing accompanies our Genghis Khan and Marco Polo unit. You can see a slower more detailed version on YouTube where I walk you through the process of drawing with chalk and portable chalkboards.
.
We love our Sargent Art Square Chalk Pastels for our chalk drawings. I can’t remember why I bought this brand for the first time over a decade ago, but it’s practically the only chalk I use.
.
My first chalk boards were from @paperscissorsstone.pss and although they changed their chalkboards to a local manufacturer, I still use my old ones.
.
But the new ones are awesome! I love the texture and the ability they give my chalks to blend, not just replace chalk or fall off as chalk dust.
.
The ones I’m using now are 2’x3’ and I love this size for chalk drawings and other lessons.
.
If you don’t want to invest in a‎ large chalkboard, I highly recommend these as a great alternative.
.
And if you thought you could get a suitable chalkboard from chalkboard paint, my recommendation would be to try a chalkboard instead. I have used chalkboard paint as well, and it’s not as nice as these chalkboard.
.
I have had all three kinds so far: slate, chalkboard and chalkboard paint. So far, after 12 years, the chalkboards from @paperscissorsstone.pss are my favorite.
.
Nearly all our Silk Road units are posted on YouTube and on my website at Pepper and Pine. Check it out for more inspiration! Link in bio or head to my website at www.pepperandpine.com
